Welcome to the Glen Rose Current, a new online publication that seeks to go beyond local newspaper headlines and report on topics that matter to the people of Somervell County.

The title alludes to the so-called "undercurrent" that exists in Glen Rose -- the gossip mill that grinds daily, spreading news by word of mouth. That rumor mill is often wrong, of course, and the Current will sort out the facts.

I decided to launch this site because many people in the community have urged me to do so and because there is a lack of "watchdog journalism" that helps keep elected officials accountable to the citizenry.

My weekly column at the Glen Rose Reporter, which I edited from February 2010 to August 2012, was one of the most-read features in the newspaper, and offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse of local happenings, especially related to local governments and taxing entities.

In this new publication/blog, I plan to report on subjects that are not receiving the attention they deserve and provide commentary not only by me, but also by others, that offers perspective and insight. The site will be nonpartisan and apply high journalistic standards just as with a print publication.

This site is offered free as a public service, but I welcome sponsors to help offset the cost of time and expenses to gather news and post information. Send donations (cash or check) to: Kathryn Jones, 5597 Highway 144 South, Walnut Springs, TX 76690.

Please feel free to post your views. I also hope this website will grow over time into a full-fledged online publication. For now, this is a start.

Thank you for reading!
